Discoloration of our rings and laser welding

Hello. Everyone!

This time, I will write a blog about the process of how our rings are made and the discoloration of metals.

A base ring  which will be prepared when you participate in our ring-texturing workshop.

First of all, our rings are formed from metal wires of platinum, gold, and silver.

The metal wire will be cut to the desired size and both ends will be grinded.

Make a circular shape so that the grinded parts fit together.

Then join the grinded parts together.

In order to braze we use something called brazing material that matches the original material.

The melting point of the brazing material used must be lower than the melting point of the material so as not to melt the material itself.

Joining (brazing) is performed by melting only the brazing material with a gas burner.

We call this joint part the wax.

The material used for this waxed part may discolor.

This discoloration will not be noticeable if you polish it, and it will be restored to its original state.

Please be assured that this discoloration is not rust.

I have posted several times on my blog about the darkening (sulfurization) of silver products.

As many of you know, discoloration may also be seen on other materials.

Don't worry, you can polish it with baking soda or an abrasive jewelry cloth.

In addition, at our shop, for those who are concerned about discoloration of this wax part, 

we provide laser welding services which makes the welded part less noticeable.

As for K18, if it is within 3 months after purchase, we will accept it at half price 3,300 yen (tax included).

6,600 yen (tax included) will be charged if it is longer than 3 months since the ring was made.

At this time, platinum is available free of charge indefinitely.

If you use this service, you will not be able to take the ring home with you on the same day.
